Online, Email and Telephone Counselling

I am passionate about offering people different ways of engaging with the counselling process.  For many people, face to face counselling will not be the first choice of working.  Other ways of working can offer more opportunities for engaging in a different way.  Working in different ways, can make counselling more accessible, as there can be more flexibility and no need to travel.  Online or telephone counselling can offer helpful alternatives.  There are different ways we can engage with online work.

Telephone Counselling

Using this method of communication, we would still have a set therapy session, but communication would take place on the phone.  Some clients feel they can share at a deeper level using this medium.  It may also be suitable for people who may not be able to easily travel, but are not keen on using Zoom. When working in this way, I ask you to initiate the call, giving you a sense of autonomy.

Video Chat Counselling

This approach means that the session is still scheduled at a particular time, but we would meet online using Zoom.  This means that you have the ability to work with me, and we can see each other, even if you live further away, or if you want to cut out travelling time. I would send you a Zoom link and information about how to use this platform.  However, I only work with people within the UK.

Email Counselling

This is probably the most flexible approach that I offer.  You can write one email to me each week, deciding when you want to sit down and put in this work.  At a set time in the week, I agree to spend 50 minutes offering you an email response.  Some people like the flexibility of being able to work in their own time and being able to make changes to what they want to say before sending the email.  You also have the time to look over and consider my responses.

Online Text Counselling

Some people find it easier to share difficult issues if they cannot be seen by the therapist.  If this is you, but you prefer a more instant approach than email counselling offers, this could be for you.  We meet on Zoom, but only use the chat facility, turning off the camera and mic and we have our 50 minute session together, using online texting.

Online Work

These methods of working are not right for everyone.  If you struggle with technology, or you prefer to see the counsellor directly, this may not be right for you.  There are also issues which are not suitable for working in this way.

It is important that you have a safe, confidential space available for working in any of the ways described above.

Please email me if you would like to find out more and I will try to answer your questions.  Whichever way of working from above which you choose, we would still have an initial session to see whether this would be the right fit for you.
